ricAMARE
by Pino Deodato
for Marca Corona

Pino
Deodato

Pino Deodato was born in Nao, Calabria in 1950, moving to Milan in 1969 where he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and where he still lives and works today. His research took shape in the 1970s, at a time when art was closely linked with political and social affairs, and he developed a very personal style that straddled both painting and sculpture.

Humanist and alchemist of imagery, Deodato constructs a poetic universe populated by figures and symbols that inhabit fantastical worlds and ask profound questions about the meaning of existence. Wonderment and rigour, delicacy and allegory coexist in his works, always with close attention to detail and formal balance.

The ricAMARE project

For the fourth edition of Marca Corona per l’Arte, Pino Deodato created ricAMARE. Il ricamo è un gesto d’amore , a site-specific work that combines tradition, innovation and identity. The artist has reinterpreted the slow and meditative action of embroidery – eternal synonym of care and dedication – in the language of terracotta. The result is a large contemporary embroiderery made up of nine bas-reliefs in white glazed terracotta enriched with gold leaf, flanked by two sculptures that evoke the intimacy of the artist’s studio.

The work is inspired by the historical motifs of Marca Corona and becomes a visual narrative in which the past is interwoven with the present, transforming an ancient practice into a metaphor for continuity, memory and collective rebirth.

Marca Corona underlines its aptitude for weaving together different languages, bringing the material culture of ceramics into contact with the poetic vision of contemporary art. Embroidery is an act of love and therefore becomes the emblem of a company that preserves values, traditions and collective identities – regenerated by its encounter with art.
