Opening on the first of three days of the Festival della Filosofia 2026, the exhibition dedicated to the works of Pino Deodato, entitled “La partitura della materia”, opens at Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo.

This solo exhibition – promoted by Marca Corona in collaboration with Gallerie Estensi and curated by Galleria Susanna Orlando – concludes the fourth edition of Marca Corona per l’Arte 2025-2026, the cultural-artistic initiative that annually brings the vision of a contemporary artist into contact with the craftsmanship of those who work at Marca Corona.

The overarching theme of the Festival della Filosofia 2026 is chaos. Deodato responds with a score: an orchestration of material, furnishings, light and architecture dedicated to care, work and the poetry of everyday life.

The exhibition is open from 18th September, with free admission for the first three days (18th, 19th and 20th September) to mark the opening of the Festival della Filosofia. Let’s explore the exhibition layout inside Palazzo Ducale and the poetic artistry of Pino Deodato in greater detail.

The solo exhibition and layout: seven narrative islands at Palazzo Ducale

The display charts an evocative journey through the artist’s historical oeuvre, where glazed terracotta, Deodato’s signature medium, blends seamlessly with the Baroque decorations of the Duke’s apartments.

The path unfolds across seven narrative islands. Continuing the thread of project “ricAMARE. Il ricamo è un gesto d’amore”, Deodato introduces personal items of furniture from his own studio and home – a table, an armchair, a desk, a bed – placing them side by side with his ceramic sculptures. This is no mere domestic recreation, but a profound and personal link between his private world of creation and the historic grandeur of the Palazzo: as if composing a musical score, the artist harmonises every element into a single composition.

The tour culminates in the masterpiece of Este Baroque style, the Hall of Bacchus, adorned with frescoes by Jean Boulanger. Displayed here is “ricAMARE. Il ricamo è un gesto d’amore”: nine bas-relief works in glazed terracotta and gold leaf, created by Deodato in 2025 in collaboration with the team at Marca Corona.

The artwork draws inspiration from drawings and decorative motifs within the company’s historical archives, reinterpreted by the artist through the metaphor of embroidery – a slow, patient gesture echoing the craftsmanship that has driven ceramic production for nearly three centuries. Hence the title of the exhibition: material is not imposed, it is composed.
